There are 6 elements in Wizardry Online: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light and Dark. There is also a Nil element. Each of these elements have different strengths and weaknesses against each other, detailed as follows:
Fire: Strong against Wind but weak against Water
Wind: Strong against Earth but weak against Fire
Earth: Strong against Water but weak against Wind
Water: Strong against Fire but weak against Earth
Light and Dark: Opposites. Strong against Wind, Fire, Earth and Water.
Nil: Strong against all elements

From the defender's viewpoint:
- = No change in damage
∆ = Damage is slightly decreased due to affinity to same element
o = Damage is greatly decreased due to affinity to strong element
x = Damage is greatly increased due to affinity to weak element
You are attacked by a Fire element spell. You are wearing Wind element armour. The damage is greatly increased since Wind is weak against Fire.
You are attacked by a Water element spell. You are wearing Earth element armour. The damage is greatly decreased since Earth is strong against Water.
You are attacked by an Earth element spell. You are wearing Light element armour. The damage is greatly decreased since Light is strong against Earth.
You are attacked by a Wind element spell. You are wearing Wind element armour. The damage is slightly decreased since the attack is of the same element. It is worth mentioning that at this time there are no Nil element attacks or armour.
Contrary to popular belief, having a high Water element defense protects you more from Fire than a high Fire element defense. Light or Dark elements are the best for defending against elemental attacks.
